Cricket Victoria has received the sad news that Matthew Albers passed away suddenly recently.
Albers was a member of the Richmond Cricket Club (now Monash Tigers) and debuted in their 1st XI in the 1991/92 season and was a member of the Tigers' premiership team of the 1999/2000 season (scoring 34 and taking 2/48 off 25.2 overs).
Matthew went on to play 166 1st XI matches for the Tigers between his debut and the 2004/05 season, scoring 2,105 runs at an average of 19.85 (with 9 half centuries and a top score of 83*), took 293 wickets at an average of 20.16 (with 7 x 5 wicket innings and best figures of 6/13) and completed 39 catches.
Matthew also represented the Victorian Second XI once in the 2003/04 season against Western Australia in Perth and took figures of 1/28 off 9 and 4/40 off 7, with his victims including the ilk of Chris Rogers, Murray Goodwin, Kade Harvey and Luke Ronchi.
