An exciting day of cricketing action has been completed with Round 10 of the Men's Victorian Premier Cricket competition taking place.

The closest match of the day was at the Mervyn G Hughes Oval, with Northcote finishing victors by just 7 runs over hosts Footscray. The visitors batted first and struggled for rhythm, finishing their innings at 8/176 with Joshua Sundberg (44) their best bat, while wickets were shared by the Dogs' attack. In reply, Dylan Brasher (57) started the innings off strong but regular wickets saw the pressure mount onto Dean Russ (52) to try and guide the side home. In the end, the equation of 8 required off 2 balls was too much as Russ skied his shot off the bowling of Michael Topp (4/30) and was caught off the second last ball of the game. Jack Lalor (3/23) also bowled well for the victors.

At AH Butler Oval, Frankston Peninsula and the Greenvale Kangaroos battled off to see who would avoid the bottom position on the ladder and the game was another tight affair with the Kangaroos winning by 19 runs. The visitors batted first and finished their innings at 7/199 with Joshua Trembearth (108) breaking through for his maiden 1st XI century and was supported by Nicholas Dixon (46), while Heat skipper Brodie Symons (3/30) was the best with the ball. In reply, regular wickets falling despite the knocks played by Chris Dew (69), Mackenzie Gardner (42) and Matt Gapes (31) saw the equation get too tight in the final overs, with Jacob Pawlowicz (3/24) and Sean McNicholl (3/25) the match-winners with the ball for the Kangaroos.

At Casey Fields #4, Casey-South Melbourne hosted St Kilda and the match saw the visitors come away with a 34-run win. The Saints batted first and were bolstered by the inclusion of Victorian and Australian representatives Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb, but these two were restricted in their time at the crease, falling for 21 and 9 (both to the bowling of Tillakaratne Dilshan). The Saints finished at 8/199 with Patrick Rowe (53) and Adam Crosthwaite (30) the leading bats, while Jackson Fry (2/14) bowled well until an injury finished his bowling and Dilshan (2/35) bowled well for the hosts. In reply, the Swans batted the overs and finished at 9/165 with Devin Pollock (38), debutant Blair Clymo (31) and Dilshan (30) all getting starts, while the wickets were shared with 2 each to Henry Thornton, Simon O'Brien and Todd Murphy.

With the bat, the best performers of the day were Carlton duo Nick Ross (130*) and Thomas Smyth (94) in the Blues' win over the Camberwell Magpies, Dandenong batsman Ed Newman (120*) broke through for his maiden 1st XI century in the Panthers' win against Melbourne Uni and Trembearth, while other stand out knocks included Prahran's Damon Egan (96*) against Kingston Hawthorn, Essendon's James Seymour (83) in the Bombers' win against Fitzroy Doncaster (breaking the Lions' 6-game winning streak in the process) and Geelong skipper Eamonn Vines (90) in the Cats' loss against Melbourne.

With the ball, the best performers were Essendon's Liam Bowe (5/27 vs Fitzroy Doncaster), Melbourne's Kyle Williamson (4/34) and Geelong's Brodie Couch (4/47) in the same game, Northcote's Michael Topp and Prahran's Nick Boland (4/20) against Kingston Hawthorn.
