Ringwood's David King passed 9,000 career 1st XI runs in today game against Geelong.

Round 7 of the Men's grades of Victorian Premier Cricket were played today in warmer conditions than in other rounds and brought out some very entertaining matches as a result.

The 'Match of the Day' between the two top heavyweights in Carlton and St Kilda at Princes Park #1 saw the visitors return to the winners' list with a 38-run win over the Blues. The Saints batted first and set the hosts a competitive target of 225 after knocks from Jonathan Merlo (49), skipper Adam Crosthwaite (43), Michael De Iacovo (43) and Patrick Rowe (41) offsetting the economical spell from Cam Stevenson (3/19 off 10). In return, despite knocks of 51 from Blues captain-coach Evan Gulbis, 41 from Thomas Smyth and 31* from Jai Lemire, the rest of the batting card appeared somewhat brittle and the Saints capitalised on this with Merlo (3/23) the pick of the bowlers.

The game that went down to the wire was at Central Reserve North, where the Camberwell Magpies held their nerve to make it two wins on the trot with a 5-run nailbiter against Richmond. The Magpies batted first and set the Tigers a target of 178 to get, with Simon Hill (37) the only bat to capitalise on a start, while Dominic Matarazzo (3/22) and Marcus Berryman (3/32) were the pick of the bowlers. In return, the Tigers appeared to be going well early with Scott Edwards (53) and Tim Goodman (38) doing well, but the work of the Magpies skipper Andrew Fekete (5/37) in removing these two at a key time enabled the Magpies to keep the pressure on and get home with 11 balls left in the match.

Another crucial match for both sides took place at the Russell Lucas Oval today with Ringwood hosting Geelong. The end result saw the Cats return to Kardinia Park with the points after chasing a score of 267 with 4 wickets and 5 balls remaining. The Rams batted first and scored 8/266 with Thomas Rogers breaking a pair of first-ball ducks to notch another century (114) and reigning Ryder Medalist David King (67) passed 9,000 career 1st XI runs in the process. For the Cats, Josh Garner (4/53) was the standout bowler. In return, the Cats paced themselves well and achieved the target off the back of innings from Tyler Larkin (70), Tommy Jackson (70*), skipper Eamonn Vines (47) and Josh McDonald (40).

Across the day there was several standout knocks with Thomas Rogers, Prahran's Lachlan Bangs (110*), Footscray's Dylan Brasher (104) and Dandenong's Brett Forsyth (124*) reaching the triple figures across the day. For Forsyth, this was Premier 1st XI century number 18 and continues to push his case as one of the best bats going around in Victorian Premier Cricket.

With the ball, the standout was Andrew Fekete's 5-wicket haul. Other bowlers to do well today were Josh Garner (Geelong), Dandenong's Adam McMaster (4/36), Greenvale Kangaroos' Darcy Bell (4/30), Essendon's Cam McClure (4/31) and Fitzroy Doncaster skipper Ejaaz Alavi had a strong all-round game with 52* and 3/28 in his side's win over Frankston Peninsula.
