Men's Premier Cricket Review - 16 Jan 2021
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sat Jan 16, 2021 6:49PM
Fitzroy Doncaster opener Jack Rudd finished with 122* in the Lions' 8-wicket win over Footscray.

Round 6 of Victorian Premier Cricket has been run and an action-filled day has seen plenty of movement across the ladders. Whilst weather impacted the lower grades, a majority of games were still able to take place across the day.

The result of the day was 16th placed Kingston Hawthorn upsetting the previously undefeated St Kilda at the CitiPower Centre by 27 runs. The Hawks set the Saints a target of 183 to chase thanks to Shorye Chopra (49), Romain Grenville (35) and Thaveesh Attanayake (31) while Wil Lovell (4/45) and Josh Bartlett (3/25) kept the Saints in with a strong chance. In return, tight bowling by the Hawks saw only Saints skipper Adam Crosthwaite (66) pass 17 with the bat as a regular flow of wickets led by Harvinder Singh (4/35) saw the Hawks secure the points.

Fitzroy Doncaster made it two wins from two games post Christmas after a strong 8-wicket win at home against Footscray. The Dogs batted first and scored 4/235 off their 50 overs with Dylan Brasher (87) and Travis Dean (56) the anchors, while Charles Simondson (3/39) was the best with the ball for the hosts. In reply, it was Lions opener Jack Rudd who flourished to finish with 122* off 128 balls to secure the Lions the points, with Lakshmn Shivakumar (53) and Liam Banthorpe (34) playing key supporting roles.

The Camberwell Magpies secured their first points for the season with a hard-fought win against the Greenvale Kangaroos to celebrate skipper Andrew Fekete's 150th Premier 1st XI match. The Magies batted first and scored 4/250 with recent debutant Hamish Burrell unlucky to miss out on a maiden first XI century, finishing the innings 99* while Akshay Kodoth (90) partnered Burrill in a 4th wicket stand worth 146. In reply, the Kangaroos tried hard but lost regular wickets in their chase and eventually finished all out for 211. Roos skipper Michael Stretton (71) and Matthew Harrison (40) tried their hardest after they were 4/50 in reply but Chris Bridle (3/30) and Thomas Russ (3/28) led the way for the hosts.

Whilst weather conditions were not entirely favourable for batsmen, some strong performances still occurred across the day with Prahran Nicholas Blaich (120) and Adam Bull (81) sharing a 206-run opening partnership in the True Blues 16-run win over Melbourne. Other strong performers with the willow (other than those noted above) includes Northcote's Mark Phelan (93 vs Essendon), Melbourne University's James McNeil (94 vs Casey-South Melbourne) and several scores in the 70s being made.

With the ball, several handy spells were seen across the day (excluding those already mentioned). Ringwood all-rounder Ian Holland finished with 3/18 including a hat trick in the Rams' win against Dandenong (with other strong performers being fellow Ram David King's 50 & 3/27 and Dandenong's James Nanopoulos with 70 and 2/32). Carlton's Eddy O'Sullivan finished with the best figures of the day with 5/24 against Richmond and Callum Dodson (Casey-South Melbourne) finished with 4/46 against Melbourne University.
