Men's Premier Cricket Review - 19 Dec 2020
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sat Dec 19, 2020 7:34PM
It was the James Nanopoulos show at Shepley Oval today, with the all-rounder finishing with 8/16 including a hat-trick as the Panthers accounted for Kingston Hawthorn.

Positive conditions for cricket greeted players today in Round 4 of the Victorian Premier Cricket Men's competitions. Batsmen generally made use of the favourable conditions, with no less than 5 centuries and a 99 in the Men's Premier 1st XI. However, it was the another performance that has made headlines again around the Victorian Premier Cricket circles today.

At Shepley Oval, it was the Panthers' premier all-rounder James Nanopoulos that was dominating the talk around the grounds after figures of 10/4/8/16 as the Panthers dominated against Kingston Hawthorn. The bowling spell from Nanopoulos included a hat-trick that at one point left the Hawks shell-shocked at 7/4 and Nanopoulos with figures at that point of 6/0! This spell saw the game significantly finish earlier than most other games.

At Toorak Park, no less than three centuries were scored in the shoot-out between hosts Prahran and visitors Ringwood. The Rams set the True Blues 268 to chase after a knock of 123 from all-rounder Ian Holland, but after having the hosts 4/37, a 5th wicket stand of 195 between ex-Saint Damon Egan (104) and Lachlan Bangs (103) boosted the hosts' chances to eventually see them come away with a 3-wicket win with 4 balls to spare. Ian Holland capped off his fine all-round performance with 3/43 off 9.

At Geelong Cricket Ground, the Cats made it back-to-back wins with a successful run chase against Melbourne Uni. The visitors batted well to set the Cats 288 to chase with James McNeil (70*) and Liam Scammell (68) leading with the willow. In return, Josh McDonald broke through for an innings of 126 and support from skipper Eamonn Vines (59) laid the platform for the Cats to sneak home by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare.

Other batsmen to stand out today included Carlton captain-coach Evan Gulbis with 102* against the Greenvale Kangaroos, St Kilda's Michael De Iacovo who backed up his century last weekend with 99 against Northcote and knocks of 88 from James Seymour (Essendon), 86 from Connor Rutland (Essendon) and 84 from Dean Russ (Footscray) in the battle between the two neighbours. With the ball, other bowlers to stand out included Fitzroy Doncaster's Sam Elliott with 5/23 against the Camberwell Magpies and St Kilda's Wil Lovell with 4/33 against Northcote.
