Essendon Maribyrnong Park and Prahran have qualified for this season's Women's Premier Firsts One-Day Final after tense semi final wins today.
At Toorak Park, Box Hill was bolstered by the inclusion of Australian skipper Meg Lanning after the cancellation of the South African tour. But Annabel Sutherland was not overawed, claiming the wickets of Bec Carter, the Lanning sisters and Zoe Griffiths in quick succession. The Mustangs were 5/11 and in real strife before Steph Butler (42), with some support from Penelope Cleghorn and Danni Montague (each 13) got Box Hill up to 105.
Sutherland continued on with the bat, crunching an unbeated 65 as Prahran cruised to victory with more than 30 overs to spare.
At Aberfeldie Park Plenty Valley fought hard to reach 107 against an EMP side including Molly Strano and Georgia Wareham. Briana Binch (3/16), Strano (2/15), Jessica Field (2/22) and Wareham (1/13) all bowled tightly, while Sophie Reid (28) top-scored for the Bats.
Rhiann O'Donnell (5/16) bowled superbly for Plenty Valley, dismissing Villani, Blows, Wareham, Strano and Taffs to have EMP reeling at 5/21, but Alyssa Humphries (34) and Taylah Lynn (33*) saw the home side through to 6/108 and a tense victory.
In the WP2s, Box Hill and Melbourne have won their way through to the Final next Sunday.
Venues for both Women's Finals will be announced in the next day or so.
