Magpies' outright to stay in touch
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sun Feb 9, 2020 7:59PM
Will Sutherland scored 60 today

Centuries to Tom Donnell and Adam Bull have guided their sides to comfortable wins, while Magpies' skipper Andrew Fekete had the impressive match figures of 9/46 to score an innings victory for his side.

Northcote scrambled to a fighting win over Essendon at Bill Lawry Oval. The Dragons, resuming on 6/114 chasing 173, left it to last pair Jonty Rushton (69) and Michael Edwards (10*) to add 37 for the tenth wicket to see them home. James Seymour completed a good individual double for the Bombers, scoring 90 out of 2/161 in the second dig to go with his 75 in the first innings. The loss saw the Bombers drop from fifth to a precarious eighth. The Dragons now sit equal third with the Blues.

Camberwell Magpies sit three points away from eighth spot after completing a conclusive innings win over Kingston Hawthorn at Walter Galt Oval. The Hawks were tracking well at 2/79 in reply to the Magpies' 9/258 declared, but folded to lose 8/31 and all out for 110. Following on, it was the same again. After reaching 1/66, nine wickets then fell for just 56 to fold again for 112. Skipper Andrew Fekete (5/37 & 4/9) was instrumental for the Magpies.

Dandenong also kept itself within touch of the eight after thrashing Monash Tigers. The Panthers lost just one wicket in passing the Tigers, with skipper Tom Donnell (141*) and Brett Forsyth (43) adding another century opening stand. Comrey Edgeworth (54*) finished the job off. It was Donnell's twelfth Premier century.

Melbourne Uni (316) maintained its lead on top of the ladder with a 162-run thumping of Fitzroy Doncaster at Schramms Reserve.

St Kilda recorded a gutsy win over Geelong, passing the Cats with eight wickets down at the GCG, Footscray was too good for Ringwood at Russell Lucas Oval, with Dean Russ (87) and Travis Dean (75) putting on 151 for the third wicket, Prahran got home easily over Frankston Peninsula with Adam Bull (113*) and Will Sutherland (60) batting well, and Melbourne was too good for Carlton at the Albert Ground.

Despite Casey-South Melbourne's massive score, led by Luke Wells yesterday, Greenvale Kangaroos hung on for a gutsy draw at Casey Fields. Several Roos' batsmen dug in, finishing on 8/333. The draw has lifted Greenvale off the bottom of the ladder, the spot now occupied by Kingston Hawthorn.
