Prahran v Melbourne Women's Final
Date of Event : Sun Mar 3, 2019 7:12PM
Melbourne - WP2 Premiers 2018-19
It will be a Prahran v Melbourne Women's Firsts Final next Sunday at the Junction Oval.
Prahran (9/190) recovered from 5/41 and 6/81 to post a reasonable 9/190 from their 50 overs against Plenty Valley at the Albert Ground. Alana King (83) and Jaide Anthony (37) added 89 for the seventh wicket. In reply Plenty Valley were travelling well at 3/97 with R O'Donnell (41) in control, but her dismissal triggered a collapse and the Bats were all out for 148, although the Prahran bowlers did their best to keep Plenty Valley in the hunt with 36 wides. Alana King (3/14) completed a fine individual match and Emma Inglis completed four dismissals - two catches, two stumpings - behind the stumps.
In the game at the Albert Ground, it went right down to the wire. Box Hill batted first and scored 9/125 from their 50 overs. Isabella Weber (37) and Rebecca Carter (35) did best with the bat and Hayleigh Brennan (3/27) was the pick of the bowlers.
Melbourne's batters also struggled, but Issy Cloke (34* off 82 balls) fought it right out and, in a thrilling finish, she found an ally in Tegan Orwin (8* off 30 balls) and the pair added the 24 required amidst great tension to secure the win. It will be Melbourne's second appearance in a Firsts Final, having gone down to Box Hill in 2015-16. It will be Prahran's first appearance since merging with Brunswick Park in 2011.
It is also the first time since 2010 that Box Hill has not appeared in the Women's Premier Firsts Final.
The Women's Premier Final starts next Sunday at the Citipower Centre, St Kilda from 10.30am.
In the Seconds Final today at Beaumaris Secondary College, Melbourne (5/155) defeated Box Hill (154). It was the Demons' first flag at this level.
