Lions v Demons
Date of Event : Sun Mar 19, 2017 7:32PM
Marcus Berryman took 5/42 for the Tigers today

It's Fitzroy Doncaster versus Melbourne in the Premier Final starting at Carlton next Friday as the Magpies and the Tigers fell at the second-last hurdle. For both the Lions and Demons, it was a case of the old adage "runs on the board" which proved correct. The Demons, defending 251, applied the pressure and the Magpies succumbed.

Quicks Jackson Coleman, Zac Mevissen, Patrick Smith and Brad Melville all took two wickets each as the Magpies' line-up lost wickets regularly being 4/60, 7/93 and all out for 120. Tom Russ (40) did best before being run out.

Fitzroy Doncaster extended its first innings to 275 before being all out in the 103rd over. The Tigers' Marcus Berryman (5/42) registered career-best figures.

The Monash Tigers' reply also began badly, with Trent Lawford (two), Chris Moore (one) and a run out reducing the score to 4/28. With Sean Terry ill and seemingly unlikely to bat, the writing was on the wall early, but Andrew Chalkley (72), Sean Edwards (23) and Sam Kerber (24) lifted the total to 5/145 to at least give the Tigers a chance. But three wickets fell on 145 and, although Terry courageously batted at ten, scoring 27, the innings ended at 180. Trent Lawford (3/36) and Chris Moore (3/29) were the best of the Lions' bowlers.
