Cricket Victoria received the sad news that Ross MacKenzie passed away earlier today, aged 67.Following his retirement as a player, Ross became a fine administrator, serving Northcote as President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and committee member for many years.
Ross was also a great contributor at Cricket Victoria, serving as a Delegate for 15 years and on the CV Pennant Committee for 10 years. Already a life member at Northcote, Ross was awarded Cricket Victoria Life Membership in 2014.As a player, Ross was a handy lower-order bat and right-arm swing bowler. In 94 VCA matches for Melbourne Uni and Northcote, he scored 786 runs at 14.29 with a top-score off 66 for the Dragons. He also took 177 wickets at 22.33, taking five or more in an innings on 9 occasions. His best figures were 9/41 for Northcote against Ringwood in 1975/76, all nine wickets to fall in the innings.Ross was also a member of Northcote's 1973-74 premiership side which defeated Melbourne in the Final. Ross took the wickets of opposing skipper Graham Brown and star batsman David Broad but, just as importantly, scored 18 batting at number eleven, adding a precious 52 with Richie Robinson for the last wicket. The final margin was just 14 runs.Cricket Victoria extends deepest condolences to the MacKenzie family and the Northcote Cricket Club.
