Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:00PM
Essendon skipper James Seymour returned for the Bombers on Saturday and top scored with 67 as they defeated the Camberwell Magpies by 50 runs.

Mild conditions greeted played for Round 5 in the Men's grades today across Victorian Premier Cricket

The 'match of the day' between Footscray and Melbourne at the Mervyn G Hughes Oval certainly didn't disappoint, with the result just going the way of the visitors by a solitary run off the last ball, with Footscray's Jake Reed run out going for the game-tying run. The Demons batted first and scored 8/254 with Campbell Kellaway (102) making it back-to-back centuries for the Demons in as many games, whilst Jack Harper (74) provided support. In reply, the Dogs were well in the game but a flurry of late wickets saw the result just go against them, finishing at 9/253. Ashley Armstrong (57), Dylan Kight (51) and skipper Travis Dean (51) all getting strong starts but just couldn't finish the task against Jackson Koop (3/42).

Ringwood upset Geelong's plans for Hayden Butterworth's 200th Premier 1st XI game, winning by 53 runs at the Geelong Cricket Ground. The Rams batted first and scored 262 off the back of two bats - Tom Rogers (118) and Arjun Dhull (93) putting on 150 for the 6th wicket after coming together at 5/81, whilst Cats quick Dom McGlinchey (5/46) bowled well. In reply, despite Hayden Butterworth (68) and Angus Boyd (45) getting starts, the Cats never looked in the chase and were all out for 209, with Brendan Walsh (3/48) the best of the Rams's attack.

St Kilda took on Frankston Peninsula at the CitiPower Centre and won by 4 wickets, but the game could easily have slipped from their grasp. The Heat batted first and were all out for 145 with Akshay Kodoth (28) top score, whilst Todd Murphy (5/32) came out with the best figures of the day for the 1st XI. In reply, the Saints lost regular wickets in the chase to be 6/100, before Josh Bartlett (25*) and Jack Cunnington (23*) guided the side home for the points after Ed Newman (38) and Jonathan Merlo (32) had starts. For the Heat, their best bowler was Brodie Symons (4/33).

In other games:

  • Richmond defeated reigning premiers Prahran by 8 wickets at Toorak Park with Shobit Singh (98*) desperately unlucky to miss out on his maiden 1st XI century;
  • Northcote defeated the Greenvale Kangaroos by 122 runs at Bill Lawry Oval with Jack Lalor (94*) and Jonty Rushton (47 & 4/23) the stars for the victors;
