Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Mon Oct 11, 2021 1:47PM

Cricket Victoria wish to advise of the passing of former Hawthorn-East Melbourne and Victorian state representative John Salmon.

CV has received confirmation earlier today that Salmon passed away on the 22nd May 2021 in Stawell, aged 87.

A right-hand bat and right arm fast medium bowler, Salmon made his 1st XI debut for Hawthorn-East Melbourne in the 1953/54 season and would also achieve the feat of debuting for Victoria in the same season - awarded State Cap #569 when he debuted in the Boxing Day Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Tasmania in Hobart (taking 0/35 & 2/21, scoring 3 and taking a catch). John would go on to represent Victoria 15 times in First Class Cricket, scoring 92 runs @ 7.07 (top score of 26) and took 41 wickets @ 28.51 (best of 4/31) and take 9 catches.

For Hawthorn-East Melbourne, Salmon would play 107 1st XI games between 1953/54 and 1964/65, scoring 295 runs @ 6.41 (highest score of 35) and took 296 wickets @ 14.59 (best bowling of 6/20) with 14 x 5-wicket hauls and 3 x 10-wicket hauls and 34 catches.

Cricket Victoria pass on their condolences to the Salmon family.

Thank you to Kingston Hawthorn scorer Craig Reece and Premier Cricket Historian Ken Williams for confirming these details.
