Vale Colin McDonald
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Mon Jan 11, 2021 4:48PM

Cricket Victoria and the Victorian Premier Cricket community were saddened to hear the news earlier today of the passing of former Australian, Melbourne and Melbourne University cricketer Mr Colin McDonald.

McDonald was selected as the 191st player to represent Australia in the 1951/52 summer against the West Indies and made himself known as a hard hitting batsman when opening the batting for his country, scoring 5 centuries in his 47-test career and keeping the class bowling of Jim Laker at bay during the latter's famous match of 19 wickets for 90 at Old Trafford in 1956 with an innings of 89 in the second innings.

McDonald was also Victorian representative number 539 and would proudly serve his state for 15 years from his debut in the 1947/48 season.

Cricket Victoria and the Victorian Premier Cricket community pass on their condolences to Colin's family at this sad time.
