Men's Premier Cricket Review - 12 Dec 2020
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sat Dec 12, 2020 7:15PM
Northcote opener Mark Phelan added another century to his record, finishing with 115 as the Dragons defeated Fitzroy Doncaster.

Pleasant conditions for cricket greeted players in Round 3 of Victorian Premier Cricket today, with batsmen generally cashing in to the conditions across most games. Several bowlers also capitalised on the day to make sure they kept scores in check.

The upset of the day was Melbourne University's dominant display against Essendon, winning by 8 wickets after only being set 98 to chase after the Bombers' middle and lower orders were exposed for the first time this season. Ben Rolfs (4-16) and James Bett (3-11) did the damage with the ball, with only James Seymour (34) getting runs for the visitors.

Dandenong received a serious scare when Richmond had them 7/62 chasing 111 but the class of Brett Forsyth (52*) guided the Panthers home, despite the efforts of Reilly Mark (3-29). Peter Cassidy (3-24) and James Nanopoulos (3-29) did the damage when bowling first to keep the Tigers to such a low score.

The top of the table clash between Ringwood and St Kilda turned out to be a fizzer, with the Rams simply outclassed by the Saints with Michael De Iacovo (136) scoring his maiden 1st XI century and Henry Thornton (4-15) continuing his strong early season form since his move from NSW.

De Iacovo's century was one of four scored in 1st XI today, with Northcote opener Mark Phelan (115), Geelong's Angus Boyd (100) and Melbourne's Blake Thomson (100) reaching triple figures and Casey-South Melbourne's Ashley Chandrasinghe guiding the Swans home against Frankston Peninsula with 98*.

Pick of the bowlers today was Prahran's Blake Parsons (5-37), with St Kilda's Henry Thornton, Uni's Ben Rolfs, Geelong's Hayden Butterworth (4-19) and Melbourne's Kieran Elliott (4-27) also bowling well for their respective sides.
