Men's Premier Cricket Review - 28 Nov 2020
Date of Event Victorian Premier Cricket: Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:28PM
Reigning Ryder Medalist James Seymour (Ess) got his campaign off and flying with a score of 142* against Geelong.

There was excitement in the air as the Victorian Premier Cricket season finally saw a commencement earlier today. Players were relieved that they could again don their gear and smell leather and willow in the air.

Whilst the weather was inconsistent across the day, batsmen generally found their touch, with four centuries in the 1st XI scored in the opening round. Essendon's James Seymour (142*) and skipper Michael Hill (106*) took task to the Geelong attack, seeing the Bombers to 1/325 before their bowlers kept the Cats at bay in a 50-run win. Ringwood's Tom Rogers continued his strong form since he moved to the Rams from Melbourne University just over 12 months ago with a blistering 181* in the Rams' total of 4/318, even outscoring Northcote's whole innings by 5 runs! Finally, St Kilda skipper Adam Crosthwaite notched his first century for the red, yellow and black (101*) as the Saints accounted for the Camberwell Magpies, with ex-NSW quick Henry Thornton taking 4/31 on debut for the Saints and keeper Patrick Rowe finished off the work of the bowlers in taking 7 catches for the innings!

Other bowlers to do well were today were Prahran's Blake Parsons (4/49), Carlton captain/coach Evan Gulbis (4/38), Footscray's Max Birthisel (4/33) and Dandenong's Peter Cassidy (4/20).

The closest game of the round saw Casey-South Melbourne scrape home against Kingston Hawthorn by just 5 runs, with the Swans successfully defending a score of 178 despite Romain Grenville's 72 for the visitors.

Overall, players were grateful to be back at the game and player behaviour has been quite positive - keep up the good work!
