Demons' skipper Will Pucovski is all smiles - he scored his fifth Premier ton today

The top four sides all registered wins in today's one-dayers, while Footscray, St Kilda, Prahran, Geelong and Fitzroy Doncaster all posted important victories to keep them in the finals race. Losses for Essendon, Ringwood, Casey-South Melbourne, Camberwell Magpies and Dandenong may all prove costly.

Centuries were scored by three young stars on the rise - Carlton's Brayden Stepien, Demons' skipper Will Pucovski and the Cats' Thomas Jackson, who completed his fifth Premier century in just his 17th match.

A late start at Footscray meant the clash with Casey-South Melbourne was reduced to 32 overs each. The Dogs posted 7/171, with Dean Russ (77) doing best. Casey-SM fell 18 short in reply, with Russ completing a fine all-round performance with 4/24.

Carlton posted the highest total for the day, finishing with 7/297 against Kingston Hawthorn. Opening pair Brayden Stepien (104 off 93 balls, 8 fours, 4 sixes) and Tom Smyth (90 off 80 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes) put on a rapid 190 in 118 minutes and a massive score looked on the cards, but Hawks' skipper Shorye Chopra (4/50) fought back to restrict the carnage. The target never looked likely however as the Hawks folded meekly for just 55 in just 13.1 overs, with Xavier Crone (5/23) and Cam Stevenson (4/31) bowling unchanged.

In other matches, the Cats regained the Hooper-Merriman Shield by defeating the Heat, Melbourne Uni scored too many for the Rams, the Saints held out the Tigers in a tight one at the CitiPower Centre, the Demons were too good for the Kangaroos, with Will Pucovski scoring his fifth Premier century. The Dragons held out the Magpies by 39 runs at Bill Lawry Oval, Prahran upset the Bombers at Windy Hill and the Lions won a thriller over the Panthers at Schramms Reserve.
