Round 13 - Week 2 Preview
Date of Event : Fri Jan 19, 2018 8:30AM
Prahran's Stephen Seymour becomes just the 7th Prahran player to play 200 Premier 1st XI matches

A frustrating weekend where rain was the victor has seen the Round 13 matches of Victorian Premier Cricket 1st & 3rd XI’s rescheduled as One Day matches (these are available under Round 18 on the Fixture). Premier 2nd & 4th XI matches will continue under Ordinary Conditions from last weekend.

Player and team statistics from last weekend are kept active for end-of-season averages, career game milestones and ladder purposes, therefore recognising performances from last weekend like:

  • Nathan Johnson’s 5/33 for Greenvale Kangaroos against Footscray;
  • Michael Beer’s 5/11 for St Kilda against Essendon;
  • Adam Bull’s 73 for Prahran against Casey-South Melbourne; and
  • Jack Rudd’s 70* for Fitzroy Doncaster against Carlton.

This round’s rescheduled matches do not count to White Ball ladders or qualifications for White Ball Finals. All 1st XI games will commence at 11:00am.

  • Carlton (2nd) host Fitzroy Doncaster (3rd) at Princes Park.
  • Essendon (5th) host St Kilda (4th) at Windy Hill.
  • Footscray (6th) host Greenvale Kangaroos (17th) at Mervyn G Hughes Oval.
  • Prahran (11th) host Casey-South Melbourne (18th) at Toorak Park.
  • Melbourne (13th) host Melbourne Uni (8th) at the Albert.
  • Ringwood (9th) will play Dandenong (1st) at Shepley Oval.
  • Northcote (15th) host Kingston Hawthorn (16th) at Bill Lawry Oval.
  • Camberwell Magpies (14th) host Geelong (7th) at Camberwell Sports Ground.
  • Monash Tigers (12th) host Frankston Peninsula (10th) at Central Reserve.

Sunday will see the White Ball Finals played across the 4 grades of Premier Cricket. Congratulations to everyone that has been successful in making the Finals.

The main game on Sunday will be between Carlton and Dandenong at Princes Park #1 (11:00am start). Both sides will be keen to take home the title, while final line-ups will be unsettled until prior to the coin toss with injuries and state team selections potentially impacting both teams.

Journalist Paul Amy (Leader Newspaper) has written a preview on the match. This can be accessed online at the following link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/south-east/sport/dandenong-and-carlton-will-battle-it-out-for-the-white-ball-crown-on-sunday/news-story/0b075efb6493d95048bc3f2c2d6205a4

The details for the remaining White Ball Finals are listed below:

  • 2nd XI: St Kilda vs Melbourne University at Harry Trott Oval (11:00am start);
  • 3rd XI: Geelong vs Dandenong at Geelong Cricket Ground (12:00 noon start);
  • 4th XI: Monash Tigers vs Carlton at Central Reserve North (12:00 noon start).

Women’s Premier Cricket this weekend will take on a different shape, with the Women’s Premier 2nds playing this Sunday in games, before the Round 6 matches in the Women’s Premier 1sts are played later in the week.

Only 4 points separates 2nd and 6th positions on the ladder and with only two rounds of T20 games before the Women’s T20 Finals, every match will count as the action on the field heats up.

Matches on Wednesday 24th January (5:30pm start) will see EMP (6th) at home at Aberfeldie Park against Plenty Valley (5th) with the winner of the match to stay in the hunt to sneak that all-important 2nd position. Melbourne (1st) play host at the Albert to Coburg (7th) with the Demons coming off a vital win against Ringwood last game to hold a 4-point buffer on top spot and Dandenong (2nd) host neighbours Ringwood (4th) at Shepley Oval in the match that could decide who competes in the T20 Final on the 10th February.

On Australia Day (Friday 26th January), Prahran (8th) will take on Box Hill (3rd) from 3:00pm as part of the Maddie’s Shield #2 fundraising day for the Maddie Riewoldt Foundation to assist with finding treatments for Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome.

A celebrity T20 match will commence the day at 10:30am, followed by the Prahran-Box Hill Women’s match. Both teams will be keen to play positive cricket, with Prahran keen to provide a boil-over and Box Hill keenly looking for the points as they are only 2 points behind Dandenong.

MILESTONES:

Congratulations to the following members of the Premier Cricket competition for recent and upcoming milestones:

  • Stephen Seymour (Prahran) will notch up his 200th Premier 1st XI match this weekend against Casey-South Melbourne (automatically qualifying for the CV 200 Club). Seymour will become just the 7th True Blue to reach 200 Premier 1st XI matches for the club in their 138-year history (with the record holder for most Premier 1st XI matches for Prahran (Neil Schlittler) sitting on 233 1st XI matches). Seymour’s value as an all-rounder since his debut in the 2003/04 season has seen him score 3,707 runs (including 6 centuries) and taken 231 wickets (best of 7/44) at time of writing. These figures make Seymour one of only 3 Prahran players to have the 3,000 Premier 1st XI runs and 200 Premier 1st XI wickets double. Seymour currently holds two club record partnerships with Sam Coates for the 7th & 8th wickets and has been a two-time Club Champion and four-time Champion 1st XI player. (The Author wishes to thank Nigel Hutton and Lisa Grimwade (Prahran CC) for the supporting information on Stephen’s career).

  • Sean Griffin (Monash Tigers) will play his 50th Premier 1st XI match this weekend against Frankston Peninsula.

  • Jordan Wyatt (Casey-South Melbourne) will play his 50th Premier 1st XI match this weekend against Prahran.

  • David King (Ringwood) passed 7,500 career Premier 1st XI runs during his innings of 25 against Dandenong in Round 13.
