Round 12, Day 2
Date of Event : Sun Dec 24, 2017 10:16AM
St Kilda's Harry Michelmore is bowled

Melbourne Uni and St Kilda have chased down big targets in Victorian Premier Cricket today, while Carlton and Monash Tigers fell just short.

Dandenong goes into the break two points clear on top of the table, but was unable to force the outright against Camberwell Magpies. Resuming at 0/131 the Panthers declared at 5/242, a lead of 140. Tom Donnell (86) and Brett Forsyth (74) extended their opening stand to 157. Three early wickets in the Magpies' second innings gave them a sniff, but the experienced Simon Hill (72*) and Tom Rickarby (34*) dug in to see their side to safety.

Melbourne was also in a strong position, declaring at its overnight 3/212, a lead of 100 over Casey-South Melbourne. The Swans' openers Michael Wallace (102*) and Devin Pollock (60) added 101, seeing their side through to 6/240 when stumps were called.

Melbourne Uni chased down Kingston Hawthorn's 328. Thanks to a maiden Premier century to Andrej Yaksender (110*), Dan Hutton (62) and Liam Scammell (58), the Students reached 7/332.

Footscray declared at its overnight 8/384 against Carlton. The Blues' reply progressed well with Brayden Stepien (50), Harrison Smyth (99) and Nick Ross (115) all contributing and, at 6/354, was on-track, but Jack Sheppard (5/41) took a late flurry of wickets and the chase ended at 9/374 with a thrilling draw.

St Kilda and Essendon overhauled reasonable targets set by Ringwood and Northcote respectively. The Rams batted on for five overs, declaring at 8/294, with skipper David King unbeaten on 155. The Saints were struggling at 5/112 before Damon Egan (106*) and Jon Merlo (74*) came together in an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 185 to claim the victory.

Chasing Northcote's 243, Essendon was struggling at 6/149 before replacement players Clint McKay (49) and Connor Rutland (26) turned the game, adding 78 for the seventh wicket. Earlier Lakshmn Shivakkumar (64) batted well for the Bombers.

In other games, Fitzroy Doncaster thumped Frankston Peninsula with Jack Rudd (133*) scoring his maiden Premier century, Prahran was too good for Greenvale Kangaroos and Geelong defended its 312 when they bowled out Monash Tigers for 306 in a thriller at the GCG.
