Rounds 6 & 7

TWO-DAYERS RETURN

The first five one-dayers have been completed and we move into the two-day format of the game from Round 6. The only two scheduled one-dayers remaining are Rounds 10 and 11, either side of the Christmas/New Year break.

Melbourne, Prahran, Ringwood, Camberwell Magpies and Northcote have all won four out their five matches to date. Only Casey-South Melbourne is yet to notch some points, but there have been some good signs in each of their matches to date.

So, the white gear and red cherries come out of mothballs and the dark shadecloth is removed from the sightscreens. The white balls, coloured clothing and power-plays disappear for the time being. Batsmen get the chance to build an innings and the spinners, at last, can bowl more than ten overs in the day. The other great attraction of the two-day format is the opportunity for teams to earn more points. Six points for a first innings win and ten for an outright.

All of the top teams face testing games across the next four Saturdays. Melbourne meets Geelong and Northcote; Prahran plays North Melbourne and Geelong; Ringwood plays Northcote and Melbourne Uni; Geelong meets Melbourne and Prahran; Northcote plays Ringwood and Melbourne.

Also as we move into November, the Primary Edge Cup Twenty20 series gets under way with the first round on 18 and 19 November.
