Rounds 4 & 5

VB PREMIER CRICKET

With two weekends and three rounds of VB Premier Cricket under our belt, the season is well and truly up and running. CARLTON, GEELONG, MELBOURNE and CAMBERWELL MAGPIES remain undefeated after Round 3, with the Blues notching the maximum of 15 points with bonus points in all three games.  MELBOURNE has scooted clear in the CV Club Championship, with last season's winner CARLTON not far behind. ESSENDON, GEELONG and NORTH MELBOURNE would appear to be the big improvers and, while FOOTSCRAY EDGEWATER and GEELONG have already exceeded their one-day performances from last season, it could be a long season for the Heat, the Dragons and the Swans. DANDENONG and ST KILDA, last season's finalists, have also begun the season slowly, the Saints' line-up last weekend almost unrecognizable from their Final team of 2006/07.

SEASON PREDICTIONS

Prior to the season, some of our Premier coaches were asked to make their predictions for the 2007/08 season. The poll findings were as follows:

  • Two-Day Finalists: Dandenong over Fitzroy Doncaster
  • One-Day Finalists: Carlton over Dandenong
  • Primary Edge Cup Finalists: Geelong over Richmond
  • Club Championship: Carlton from St Kilda
  • Ryder Medal: Simon Dart (H-MU) from Peter Dickson (FD), Damian Shanahan (Geel), Clinton Peake (Geel)
  • Leading Runscorer: Nathan Pilon (Carl) from Peter Dickson (FD), Luke Walker (FP), Simon Dart (HMU)
  • LeadingWicket-taker: Darren Groves (FP) from Jon Holland (Carl), Cameron Huckett (Prah)
  • LeadingWicket-keeper: Damon Rowan (St K) from Ben Cookson (H-MU), David Nankervis (FP), Tim Ludeman (Carl)

RESCHEDULING

There are still several main ovals out of action - Camberwell Magpies, Frankston Peninsula, Melbourne University, Prahran, Richmond, Central Reserve #1 and the Harry Trott Oval. Watch the Premier Cricket website each Friday for all the venue changes. If you think this is all an inconvenience, spare a though for the CAMBERWELL MAGPIES 3rds boys. Last weekend, as a result of the rescheduling, they played the Lions at the Hume & Hovell Ground, Strath Creek on Saturday and then had to travel to the Hooper Oval at Hastings to play against the Heat on Sunday.
