Rounds 14 & 15
VALE JACK CAHILL
All followers of Premier Cricket were saddened to hear of the passing of Jack Cahill last week. Patron and former President of the Hawthorn-Monash University CC. Jack, who turned 91 just the week before, was also a former player and life member of the club. His friendly, welcoming smile and manner will be sadly missed. All at Cricket Victoria extend deepest sympathies to Jack's family and the HMUCC.
TWO TO GO
FOOTSCRAY EDGEWATER, FRANKSTON PENINSULA and perhaps ESSENDON all registered important wins to keep their seasons alive in Round 13. The Bulldogs toppled MELBOURNE, with John Hastings and Grant Lindsay the stars in last weekend's cauldron. NORTHCOTE let a great opportunity slip when HAWTHORN-MONASH UNI ripped through the Dragons' tail and CAMBERWELL MAGPIES' chances appear to have gone, despite going within an inch of toppling top side RINGWOOD.
As we head towards a fantastic finish to the home and away season, only the Rams and the Blues are assured of finals participation.

ONE-DAY CHAMPS
Congratulations to MELBOURNE, our VB One-Day premiers for 2008/09. The Demons overcame a gallant PRAHRAN in the Final at the Albert last Sunday to register their first One-Day title since the separate premiership was introduced in 2002/03.
In the Seconds, ESSENDON won its fourth One-Day flag (of the seven contested) with a narrow win over the Magpies. PRAHRAN won its first One-Day flag in the Thirds with a magnificent partnership of 292 between BrendanMcGuinness and Liam Murphy setting up a huge total against the Blues. MELBOURNE continued its dominance in the Fourths with its fifth One-Day premiership with a comprehensive win over the Saints.
