Round 13 & One-Day Finals
THE RUN TO THE FINALS
Just six Saturdays remain before the finals series and the jostling for a spot in the eight will be on in earnest. RINGWOOD registered the first outright of the season last week over the Bulldogs and, as a result, has leapt nine points clear at the top of the ladder. GEELONG and CARLTON are second and third and their Round 15 clash at Princes Park in the last game before the finals will be a beauty.
Important Round 13 matches starting this week will be the GEELONG (2nd) v FITZROY DONCASTER (4th) clash at Schramms Reserve, HAWTHORN-MONASH UNI (7th) v NORTHCOTE (11th) game at Monash Uni and MELBOURNE (8th) v FOOTSCRAY-EDGEWATER (9th) encounter at the Merv Hughes Oval.
DANDENONG (v ST KILDA) and CAMBERWELL MAGPIES (v RINGWOOD) also face huge games as losses will probably end their finals chances for the season.

VB ONE-DAY FINALS
Melbourne and Prahran will contest the VB One-Day Final on Sunday 8 February after disposing of the Rams and the Blues respectively in the semi finals last Sunday.
Andrew Kent and Michael Hill were brilliant at the Albert Ground for the Demons, each scoring centuries and adding 202 in a secondwicket partnership, setting a total which was too many for the Rams.
The other semi final at Princes Park was a tight, low-scoring game. PRAHRAN skipper Neil Schlittler made it look easy for a while, blasting 36 off 20 balls. His side's 170 looked inadequate, but CARLTON faltered under the pressure and four run outs cruelled their hopes.
PREMIER GROUNDS
This season, to date, 110 matches have been played in twelve rounds plus two one-day semi finals. It's no surprise that most runs have been scored at Toorak Park, with the Albert Ground not far behind, but bowlers have also found it tough work taking wickets atMonash University. Of our regular grounds,Monash Uni (33.57 runs per wicket) tops the table from Toorak Park (33.25) and Geelong (30.91), while batsmen find the going toughest at Richmond (18.85 RPW) and St Kilda (19.82).
FAREWELL LEN KEMP
Victorian Cricket lost another fine player of yesteryear on January 21 with the passing of Len "Dinnie" Kemp at Box Hill. Kemp, who played five first class matches for Victoria in 1932/33 and 1933/34, died just four and a half months short of his 100th birthday.
Len Kemp was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler. He played 48 matches for University (1928/29 - 1932/33) and 54 for Prahran (1933/34 - 1937/38), scoring a total of 3,024 runs@36.43 and taking 116 wickets @ 26.97.
For Victoria, he scored 250 runs @ 35.71 and taking 5 wickets@36.60. Four of his five matches were played in Tasmania. In just his second match, played at the TCA Ground in Hobart in 1932/33, Kemp scored 114, sharing an eighth wicket partnership of 179 with Stan Quin (113). This is still the Victorian eighth wicket record stand against Tasmania.
In the last of his representative matches, he captained a Victorian 2nd XI against NSW 2nd XI at the MCG in January 1934, scoring 75 and 44 not out. The NSW captain in this match was Alan McGilvray, later the voice of ABC radio's Test Cricket broadcasts.
Len was our oldest Victorian first class player at the time of his death.
Cricket Victoria extends condolences to the Kemp family as well as the Melbourne University and Prahran Cricket Clubs.
