Primary Edge Cup
PRIMARY EDGE CUP
Twenty20 has caused an upheaval in world cricket as consumers, administrators and competitions at all levels clamour to find a niche in already crow
ded cricketing calendars.
Premier Cricket's own Twenty20 competition - the Primary Edge Cup - hits our grounds from Tuesday 18 November. The Primary Edge Cup returns for a fifth season as Twenty20 continues to spiral in popularity.
Cricket Victoria is delighted to welcome back Primary Edge Marketing as the major sponsor of the Premier Twenty20 Competition - their fourth successive season - and we acknowledge their great support.
Matches are played from 5.15pm until about 8pm. The first three of the 21-match series will be played on Tuesday 18 November 2008 and climaxes with the Primary Edge Cup Final on Tuesday 16 December. The Tigers, Panthers and Demons have won titles in our first three seasons, although the Hawks notched an unofficial win in 2004/05, when only twelve teams contested a trial series.
Features of the Primary Edge Cup are the non-stop action, white balls, party atmosphere with healthy crowds, coloured clothing and a "bowl-out" to decide
ties or "no-result" matches. As a drawcard, last season several clubs signed up special celebrity guest players including Cameron Smith, Brett Montgomery, Jimmy Bartel and Brett Deledio.
Premier Clubs this season have been given some flexibility with the draw - if both clubs are in agreement, matches can be moved to another date or timeslot. The format and rules remain basically unchanged.
We all wish the VB Bushrangers every success in their quest for the "Holy Grail": the Champions Super League Twenty20 title in India in early December. Every Victorian hangs off every ball guys - fare well!
