A surprise winner of the 1992/93 Ryder Medal, Mark Leehane was a left-handed batsman and right-arm medium paced bowler for Essendon. After a season playing for sub-district side Broadmeadows in 1991/92, Leehane returned to the Bombers as skipper in 1992/93 and his consistency (439 runs @ 54.87 and 12 wickets @ 16.50) that season earned him 29 votes, one more than the Hawks' Graeme Vimpani and two more than the Magpies' Anthony Amalfi.
