A consistent left-hander for Fitzroy Doncaster, Brendan Joyce scored 7442 runs at 39.37 across fifteen

seasons for the Lions. He scored 12 centuries, with a highest score of 155* against North Melbourne

at Schramms Reserve in 1995-96. His 915 runs at 76.25 that season was enough to win the Jack Ryder Medal,

but his most productive season was 2001-02, when he scored 958 runs at 56.35 to head the VCA batting aggregates.

Remarkably, the tally contained nine half-centuries and no hundreds.

A member of Fitzroy Doncaster's 1993-94 premiership winning team, Joyce (92*) and Leigh Watts (131*) added

an unbroken third wicket stand of 221, still a record in a VCA Final. Joyce also captained the Lions to their 2001-02

premiership win. He was also undefeated (60*) when the win over Melbourne Uni was reached.
