A powerful and consistent batsman for three clubs, Darren Dempsey is one of only eight players to top 10,000 runs in Premier Cricket.

He was Club Champion at Ringwood six times and at North Melbourne three times. He won the Jack Ryder Medal in 2000-01 jointly with Paul Collingwood. Altogether he scored 27 Premier centuries with a top score of 212* for Ringwood against Frankston Peninsula in 1999-2000, still a Rams' club record. Dempsey captained Dandenong to the club's 2010-11 premiership win.

Unable to break in to the Victorian team, Dempsey had a season in Adelaide in 2001-02, playing three Sheffield Shield matches, but returned to Melbourne the following season.
