"Rob Templeton joined the Demons from Hamilton in 1980 and, within two seasons, had impressed enough to earn a Victorian cap in two first class matches. Despite a useful 40 against the touring Englishmen and 8 dismissals in those two games, he was dropped and returned to VCA Premier Cricket where he established all sorts of keeping records over a 20-year career. Templeton played in five premierships for Melbourne and, in 302 matches, effected 671 dismissals, an all-time VCA record which is unlikely to be surpassed.
He headed the season aggregates for keepers 4 times, twice making 10 dismissals in a match, another record he shares with Gavan Holland and Linton Bridges. Templeton's hard-hitting batting late in the day provided many tiring opposition bowlers with headaches and his batting record, with 2 centuries, 17 half-centuries and an average of 27.32, is a very respectable one."
