"Steve McCooke joined the exclusive VCA ""300 Club"" on the same day as his Demons' team-mate, Rob Templeton in Round 7 of the 1999/2000 season. Originally from South Caulfield, McCooke made his debut for Melbourne in 1976/77 and was a useful all-round contributor, playing in 7 VCA Finals for 4 premierships. Always a capable batsman, it was when McCooke reduced his pace and took up off-spin that his career flourished to such an extent that McCooke played 3 first class matches for the Bushrangers in 1993/94. His off-breaks wrecked Queensland at the MCG to the tune of 6/35 as the Vics won a thriller in the gloom by just 3 runs.
McCooke headed the VCA bowling aggregates in 1997/98 with 47 wickets @ 19.70, assisting the Demons to another flag."
