"A right-arm fast bowler who gave great service to Fitzroy over a 21-season career from 1957/58 to 1977/78. He took 599 wickets for the Lions, a club record, including 63 @ 13.76 in 1963/64 to top the VCA bowling aggregates.
Illingworth, in an auspicious first class debut, took 3/43 & 4/28 against Tasmania at Geelong in 1961/62, but was called three times for throwing in a Shield match against South Australia in Adelaide in 1964/65. The selectors were reluctant to pick him thereafter, but he continued to give Fitzroy tremendous service, winning the Arthur Liddicut Medal (Club Champion) three times and the club's bowling average twice.
Illingworth later became a Fitzroy Delegate to the VCA from 1970/71 until 1977/78."
