Originally from Warrion near Colac, Holland made his VCA debut for North Melbourne/Geelong in 1986/87, but crossed to Richmond following the breakdown of the trial merger after the 1987/88 season. Holland gave the Tigers tremendous service, playing in VCA Premiership teams in 1989/90 and 1999/2000, heading the VCA's season wicketkeeping aggregates four times, and extending his number of VCA dismissals to 498. Only Rob Templeton (671) and another former Richmond legend, Dave Cowper (595) have more to their credit in VCA history. The highlight of Holland's batting career was undoubtedly his only century, scored in the 1999/2000 VCA Final against Melbourne
