"A member of the famous Fitzroy family, Ray Harvey played for 20 years in the Lions' 1st XI between 1941/42 and 1960/61, playing in the 1953/54 and 1960/61 premiership sides.
A right-hand batsman and leg-spinner, Ray Harvey's runs and centuries tallies remained a Fitzroy record until Gary Watts surpassed them during the 90s. Harvey's highest District score was an unbeaten 205 against University in 1949/50. He twice topped 800 runs in a season, twice headed the VCA batting aggregates, once topped the VCA batting averages, twice topped the VCA bowling averages and was the leading catcher on three occasions. With his leg-spinners, Harvey took 217 wickets at 20.98, with best figures of 6/43. He took five or more in an innings on 12 occasions. Bill Lawry rated Ray Harvey, along with John Grant, as the best District players he had played against throughout his career.
Ray played 38 first class matches for Victoria between 1947/48 and 1959/60, scoring 1877 runs @ 30.77 including 3 centuries - 121 v Western Australia at the MCG in 1952/53, 110 v South Australia at the MCG in 1953/54, 106* v New South Wales at Sydney in 1953/54."
