A Carlton import for season 1998/99, former Pakistan Test leggie Abdul Qadir took an incredible 72 wickets @ 15.87 for the Blues, the fourth highest of all time and easily the most in a season since the introduction of covers in 1981. He took five or more wickets in an innings on eight occasions with best figures of 8/67 against the Bulldogs.
Qadir polled 38 votes to easily win the Ryder Medal, seven votes clear of batsmen Warren Ayres (Melb) and Darren Dempsey (Ring).
Qadir passed away on the 6th September 2019, aged 63. |
